Webinar: Sanitation & 2030 Agenda: health, cities, and civilization

The pandemic crisis resonates more intensely where the social fabric is already stretched or damaged. Sanitation matters are a worldwide concern that pretty much represents vulnerabilities in our response capacity to “acute” situations, like pandemics, natural or man-made disasters, and that hinders the way we address chronic issues related to our civilizational advance.  The current situation poses a challenge that shows how sanitation is decoupled in a preoccupied way: the easiest manner to stop the spread of a virus is by washing your hands, yet you have large sums of people without access to clean water. The panel will address the many hues of sanitation inequalities and how sanitation is connected itself to a broader debate towards de 2030 Agenda.

The panel will be composed of the researcher leaders Dr. Priti Prakih and Loan Diep, from the University College London,  who will address sanitation international agenda under the lens of the intertwined Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Professor Tadeu Malheiros, from the University of Sao Paulo, who will address sanitation challenges in slums and Rubens Filho, from Trata Brasil Institute, who will address the civil society role and challenges for universal sanitation coverage in Brazil.
The mediation will be made by Flavio Martins, representing the Science Diffusion Department of the Center for Research in Inflammatory Diseases (CRID).

– The panel will be transmitted online at the youtube channel from the Instituto de Estudos Avançados (IEA-RP/USP).
